Celtic Connections: Sara Parkman
Sara Parkman
”Parkman does the Wee Tam/The Big Huge cosmic ballet thing, weaving traditional jigs, abrasive fiddling and medieval liturgy into a Björk-via-Laurie Anderson culture clash.” MOJO Magazine
”Both traditional, political and humanist, her incredible voice practically grabbed your spirit and took it on a voyage elsewhere for a few minutes.” Clash Magazine
Sara Parkman is a Swedish folk musician who has redefined the genre by blending tradition with bold innovation. With a career spanning over 4 albums, she has won a Swedish Grammy, earned multiple awards, and built a reputation as a groundbreaking artist.
Her music moves effortlessly between the sacred and the raw, the homestead and the nightclub. Beyond being a violinist, singer, and composer, she is a cultural force who challenges and reshapes folk music’s boundaries. Always evolving, Parkman continues to push artistic and emotional depths with every project she takes on.
As the figurehead of a movement larger than herself, she has also carved out a place of her own for Scandinavian folk music, reaching far beyond its geographic realm. Her latest album “Aster, Atlas” - released earlier this year; has been unanimously praised by press all over Europe including the BBC, MOJO, Clash and Songlines
