Damn Teeth
+ Cat Apostrophe + IDEAL
Glasgow's Damn Teeth (featuring current and ex-members of Thin Privilege, Black International and Joanna Gruesome) produce a synth-heavy sound that touches on the dance-noise of Six Finger Satellite, the melodic hysteria of Xiu Xiu and the pop sensibilities of LCD Soundsystem gone sour. In their four years as a band, Damn Teeth have toured the UK multiple times, racked up support slots with Future Of The Left, Self Defense Family, Dead Rider and Hop Along amongst others, and have appeared at festivals such as Doune The Rabbit Hole, Shetfest and Washed Out. Their debut album was released digitally and as a limited-run cassette via Good Grief Records in 2015.
Damn Teeth’s new album, Real Men - scheduled for a summer release via Buzzhowl Records (Beige Palace) - takes a deep dive into the horrors of male sexuality and the masculinist mindset, drawing influence from pornography, media coverage of figures such as Larry Nassar and Joseph DeAngelo, and the writings and sound collages of Peter Sotos. In the process of siphoning this Power Electronics-esque subject matter into a pop framework, lead singer/lyricist Paul McArthur explores his own complicity in patriarchal abuse.
Real Men was produced and engineered by Niall Sinclair (Urvanovic) with drums recorded by Ross McGowan (Dananananaykroyd, Thin Privilege), and was mastered by James Plotkin (Oneohtrix Point Never, John Carpenter).
Cat Apostrophe are a radically soft DIY pop band based in Leeds and Sheffield, UK. They write simple, clumsy and heartfelt songs about depression, self-care, survival, eating and existing in a messed up world. Cat Apostrophe have been seen playing with bands like Charly Bliss, Dream Wife, Spook School, Trust Fund, Suggested Friends, Charmpit, Free Cake for Every Creature, Martha, and The Potentials in the last few years.
IDEAL is the solo project of Glasgow drummer Grant Donaldson (Farewell Singapore, Civil Elegies, Billy Ray Osiris). IDEAL’s debut album, Nobody Knows or Cares, was initially self-released in June 2018, with all profits going to the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).
With IDEAL, Donaldson distils the virtuosic flair of Zach Hill and the noise attack of Brian Chippendale into something leaner and more danceable - a series of hissing, monomaniacal grooves, laid down live using only a triggered drum kit and sporadic distortion-fried vocals.
Nobody Knows or Cares was captured in all of its lo-fidelity glory by producer Omar Aborida (The Cosmic Dead, Dead Otter) and mastered by Hamish Black (Civil Elegies, Thin Privilege).
