‘Assynt’ are a new folk trio featuring David Shedden (pipes/whistles), Graham Mackenzie (fiddle) and Innes White (guitar/mandolin). 2018 sees the release of their debut album ‘Road to the North’, predominantly complied of self penned tunes recorded at Oak Ridge Studios with Scott Wood. After performing at several Piping Live festivals in Glasgow and earlier this year at Celtic Connections in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Assynt will be touring Scotland in June and August.
Individually, the band has worked with the Grit Orchestra, Heidi Talbot, John McCusker band, Karen Matheson, Siobhan Miller and are founding members of ‘Aizle’ and ‘Farrland’ respectively. Between them, they have been BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winners, finalists in the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year and have two Celtic Connections ‘New Voices’ commissions.
Corner House
American Old Time meets Scottish fiddle tunes and songs, along with our own compositions inspired by these traditions. Our paths first crossed at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Playing tunes and singing songs in a cozy kitchen on Boston snow days and a shared love of fiddle traditions from both sides of the Atlantic brought us together; in September 2017 we gave our debut performance at Freshgrass festival in Massachusetts.
