Celtic Connections & The Hug and Pint presents:

Celtic Connections: Charlie Straw

+ Northern Central

The Hug and Pint, Glasgow, GB

£10
Entry Requirements: 18+

Wirral-born Charlie Straw is all about stories. Whether it's the stories in his songs, the story of him recording his early music in a basement in Thailand or the story of him sofa surfing the length of the UK for 30 days playing a show every night in venues including prisons, churches and barns. In the age of internet based artists, Charlie is an artist who is getting out to learn from as many different experiences he can whilst connecting with people in a variety of ways.

Alongside a run of UK Summer festivals and touring across Europe, Charlie has been releasing his first official material which has received praise from notable outlets such as Clash, Mahogany and BBC Introducing. Charlie's music sits somewhere between Blues and Folk. Taking inspiration from artists including Justin Vernon and Jeff Buckley right through to Howlin' Wolf and Etta James, his sets consist of calming songs mixed with a dark, soulful edge.

Aonghas and Chloe first met at an open mic night that they would go on to host. Since then, they have refined their sound through weeks of countless acoustic covers and untested originals. Jack then came into the fold after regularly jamming alongside the hosts. Northern Central was thus formed, with a focus on pulling on the heartstrings of punters with eeries harmonies and a blend of three multi-instrumentalists.

Influences include traditional folk, heavier punk bands and the complete collection of Mozart piano sonatas.
