Line Up

Three piece indie-pop band Peaness formed in Chester, England in late 2014. The debut EP “No Fun” was released Aug 20th 2015 and is available online now. The trio have gigged extensively up and down the country in the space of a year, and have now been booked for their own headline shows. They have been featured on BBC Introducing Wales and Merseyside with their singles “Fortune Favours The Bold” and “Summer Song” as well as the BBC Introducing show on BBC 6 Music with “I’m Not Your Problem”. More recently their latest single “Oh George” released 15/04/16 has had multiple spins on the Huw Stephens show on BBC RADIO 1. They played a sold out show at last years Swn Festival, Cardiff, and are planning to release more material in early 2017 in the form of a 2nd E.P. The pre-sale of their new single 'Same Place' has sold out in less than 2 days - to be released in the new year with Odd Box Records '100 Club'.

The trio began playing together as Peaness after graduating from the local University. After writing a selection of songs over half a year, the band crossed the border into North Wales to join Russ Hayes of Orange Sound Record Studio (Catfish and the Bottlemen) to record, mix and master the debut E.P “No Fun” over just two days.

Peaness started performing live in July 2015; since then the group have had support slots for US bands Eureka California, Bunny Grunt, and UK bands PAWS (Fat Cat!) The Spook School (Fortuna Pop!), Mammoth Penguins (Fortuna Pop!), Chorusgirl (Fortuna Pop!), Sauna Youth, Vangoffey, HMS Morris, Baby Brave, Bruja and The Lovely Eggs, as well as a few headline shows.

In the space of a year the band have already played an impressive collection of indie festivals including: Wales Goes Pop! (Cardiff), A Carefully Planned Festival (Manchester), DIYPOPFEST (London), Threshold Festival (Liverpool), Lock Tavern Festival (London), Chester Live, Focus Wales (Wrexham), Llangollen Fringe Festival and the NME Awards nominated Sŵn Festival (Cardiff) which reached max capacity back in Nov 2015 at Clwb Ifor Bach. The band have also become favourites on the blog scene, appearing in interviews, reviews of the EP and compilation mixtapes and playlists.

Peaness now jump into 2016 with the release of their new single “Oh George” on April 15th. They have also just released a 7" AA single of ‘I’m Not Your Problem / Fortune Favours The Bold’, via Canadian indie label King Fisherbluez. The trio sold out of their limited edition green cassette tape in less than 12 hours via their bandcamp merchandise page and now only have a handful of the 2nd edition tapes. Peaness head back into the studio at the start of Oct to complete the next batch of songs. Stay tuned.

Peaness promo photo Press: “It’s difficult to narrow it down to a single song from Chester trio Peaness’s immaculate debut EP, No Fun: each song contains more than enough subtle surprises to keep you guessing, both in their lyrical smarts and their smooth melodic effortlessness.” - THE SKINNY MAGAZINE

“The most pleasing aspect about the band’s popular ascent has been how organic it’s been”- (FULL FEATURE) BIDO LITO MAGAZINE

“Chester’s Peaness packed out Clwb Ifor Bach with their instant melodic indie slo-punk in a gig that was so busy I could’t actually see them once through the crowd.“ - HUW STEPHENS/NME

“Most bands don’t get to play shows like that ever, let alone during their early thrashings. But Peaness aren’t most bands. Their debut EP, ‘No Fun’, is a couple of months old and displays a wealth of songwriting smarts and clever melodies, while live they’re sharp and together in a manner that belies their relative inexperience.” -STEREO BOARD

“Early days they may be but the trio appear to have figured out the deceptively simple, age-old secret to transcending influences: just write top notch songs.” - BARRY GRUFF

“Coursing surf-lines, handclaps and sweet, Siamese-tight harmonies build to what shall be described from here on out as the definitive ‘Pea-pop’ chorus: A chorus so catchy it should come with a sign or symbol warning of potential addiction.” - GIG SLUTZ

“With more hooks, charm and depth than a dozen identikit indie-boy bores. Listen to ‘Fortune Favours The Bold’ once and you’ll fall in love too.” - SWN FESTIVAL

“If they keep making songs this spectacular this early into their career, you can expect big things from this band in the very near future.” - THE YOUNG FOLKS

“Matching its title, the track juxtaposes The Cribs’ guitar riffage with The Breeders’ harmonies and comes backed by a video filmed at Modern Art Oxford, and Telford’s Warehouse Chester.” - BEARDED MAGAZINE
